Background
Trained as a painter and a printmaker, Christy Mitchell has focused on developing
Monotypes,
which combine traditional brush painting with a print process which
produces only one image, hence the name, Monotype. She has developed
unique techniques that combine luscious painterly qualities with
rich colour and texture, which are the trademarks of her work.
Christy Mitchell usually works in 'series,' exploring a
particular theme or subject matter, and often returning to re-work
images and symbols that she has referred to over the years in her
art practice.
Her work is diverse in
subject matter, yet always follows her interest in landscapes and the gifts of the earth.
Currently
living in the Comox Valley in BC, she is inspired by her studio
environment; set within a deep green forest, with wild deer browsing just
outside the window and eagles flying above.
